Chronic Pain Management Program
Patients suffering from chronic pain and chemical dependency often find the path to recovery difficult. They have either had surgery or have tried a multitude of chiropractic interventions. Usually these treatments are combined with various pain medications such as vicodin, percocet, or stronger narcotics such as oxycontin. Patients want to live a drug free life but are prescribed these powerful medications by well meaning physicians to alleviate their pain. While these medications offer temporary pain relief they also are highly addictive, causing the patient to resort to taking more than the prescribed amount. Their usual dosage is no longer effective as their body builds up a tolerance. This sometimes leads to negative behaviors such as “ doctor” shopping, or writing fraudulent prescriptions. In some cases, patients’ seek out illicit street drugs leading to even greater addictions and even sometimes overdose or death. Chronic pain and the powerful medications used to treat it are the leading cause of relapse in the recovery process.
At Ambrosia Addiction Treatment Center, we use several proven methods to control pain without the use of “pain killers” such as those described above. Our “Pain Management Program” incorporates a holistic approach to chronic pain. Treatments offered include acupuncture, massage, hydrotherapy, as well as other alternative methods practices in Chinese medicine. In addition, we provide when appropriate, a physical workout regimen supervised by a personal trainer to improve strength and flexibility. Finally, for those with extreme chronic pain, we employ a physician who specializes in Pain Management without the use of narcotics or other pain medications.
We feel that our approach to “chronic pain management” can be taught to anyone who continues to suffer but knows that taking pain medication is a relapse waiting to happen.
