  Percocet Treatment

Percocet Treatment

Percocet is the number one pain medication prescribed by physicians and dentists today. Consequently, it is the most abused pain medication used both by drug abusers and drug addicts. The drug is easily attainable as there are thousands of physicians willing to prescribe it, especially if the price is right. The easiest place to find Percocet is in the average household’s medicine cabinet. Those with internet connections also have a legal drug connection as there are thousands of web sites that enable anyone with a credit card to purchase bottles of Percocet and have them delivered to their front door. Lastly, there is the neighborhood drug dealer who usually has a ready supply available for sale.

Many people don’t realize that the euphoria given off from Percocet is very similar to that of heroin and the intensity of the addiction can be the same. Even during the early stages of chronic use, physical dependence on Percocet can develop quickly. The drug also produces a powerful psychological dependence. The physical and psychological dependence on Percocet offers an escape from the reality of everyday stresses. It gives one the feeling that all is well in the world along with a false sense of being.

Percocet addiction is a pattern of compulsive Percocet use characterized by a continued craving for Percocet and the need to use Percocet for psychological effects or mood alterations. Many individuals who have formed an addiction to percocet find that they need to use it to just feel normal. They exhibit drug-seeking behavior and are often preoccupied with using and obtaining Percocet.

Statistics state that women are two times more likely than men to form an addiction to Percocet. Seniors take more drugs than the rest of the population, increasing their chances of becoming dependent on Percocet. Lastly, these statistics also state that the sharpest increase of users of prescription drugs for non-medical purposes occurs in the 12 to 17 year old age groups. This can be attributed to the availability of these medications and the willingness of adolescents to experiment with whatever is available to them. This is not to say that individuals addicted to Percocet all fall into a particular age or gender group. Those addicted may come from all walks of life. From the highly educated; attorneys, teachers, or even physicians, to blue collar workers, addiction to Percocet does not discriminate. They all have one thing in common…..the “solution”.

Percocet Withdrawal

The first stage in Percocet addiction treatment is the physical part. Often addiction to Percocet develops without the individual realizing it. When the usual dosage is stopped or reduced abruptly, severe withdrawal symptoms can occur. These symptoms include:

Flu like symptoms
Gastrointestinal distress
Anxiety
Nausea
Insomnia
Muscle pain
Sweating
Runny nose & eyes

To combat these symptoms of withdrawal and safely “detox” off of Percocet one should enter a detoxification center. Most “detox” centers use a certain protocol that alleviates most, if not all of the above symptoms. “Subutex” or “Suboxone”, along with other ancillary drugs is the usual protocol used in the detoxification of the opiate Percocet. These medications are usually given in tapering doses until the addicted person is free of all medications. The usual length of stay for this process is around seven days. We at Ambrosia Treatment Center use several reputable detox centers prior to coming to Ambrosia for treatment.

Treatment for Percocet Dependence

Ambrosia’s treatment approach is unique when treating the dependent person. Each client entering our doors receives an individual treatment plan. This means a course of treatment that is different than the rest of our population. As said above, the main thing that our clients have in common is their “solution”. All clients at Ambrosia have a similar problem in that they were addicted to a substance prior to admission. Once the substance is taken away their various issues begin to arise, especially the ones that have been the impetus to use in the first place. This is when the use of the individual treatment plan takes effect. Many clients come to Ambrosia the victim of some form of trauma experienced in earlier years. Along with individual and group therapies, Ambrosia uses cutting edge interventions to speed up the healing process which empowers the client to participate in their own recovery. They learn to not sit around and wait for their primary therapist to “do it for them”. We also assist each client in putting back the pieces of their lives, whether it be marital, financial, legal, or social. Problems that seemed insurmountable while using are made clear and with our assistance can be solved. Their problems don’t go away however their ability to deal with them in a healthy way is learned and practiced on a daily basis. In addition, we incorporate a 12-step philosophy to assist in making changes that will continue throughout the recovery process. Our goal is to enable our clients to become the men and women they always wanted to be but never knew how.
